Rectors Report
April 15th,2012

A special welcome this morning to all those who are part of our parish family as they join us in this memorial Eucharist to commemorate the100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. We also give thanks this morning for those who would be first to respond to answering the call when tragedy or natural disasters create chaos in our lives.

Thanks to Spiritual Development Committee for its planning and the Ladies Group and members of the congregation for providing refreshments for fellowship following the service. Special thanks to our organist, Edith Steffens, and the choir who will be leading us in a number of hymns that would have been contemporary at the time of the Titanic sinking. Also thanks to Tim Edwards who will accompany our organist this morning by offering his musical talents in the hymns, and in a special memorial presentation.

I was pleased, as Regional Dean for the region of Fort Sackville, to chair a meeting of clericus at St. Thomas Church in Fall River on Wednesday morning. I attended a meeting of the Finance Committee on Wednesday evening. I took some quiet time on Thursday to do some reading in preparation for our worship during this Easter season. Parish Council met on Thursday evening.

I was at my desk on Friday morning to put the finishing touches on the liturgy we will use today for our Titanic memorial service. Thanks to our organist, Edith Steffens for her input, and thanks to Wendy Wells who prepares our weekly bulletins which include special services such as will take place this morning.

You may notice a couple of new additions to our parking lot. On either side of the sign there is now a post. This will prevent cars from parking too close and limiting access to the sign. Thanks to Keith Fraser and Gordon Hamlin for this installation.

Though we gather this morning, in sombre remembrance of the tragic events of that night in 1912 when the Titanic sank to the bottom of the sea taking with her hundreds of souls, let us not forget the season we are in, and the hope and promise which it holds out to us. Last week we shouted with joy, Alleluia, Christ is risen! Death is not the final answer, but rather life, with the Risen Lord.

May we so live our lives with the Risen Christ that what we say think or do may be a blessing to God's holy name.
