Rectors Report
April 29th, 2012

This morning the lectionary readings are consistent with the fact that this Sunday has often been called Good Shepherd Sunday. The familiar verses of the 23rd Psalm and the gospel reading that begins with Jesus saying, "I am the Good Shepherd" give ample cause for this designation. We associate shepherds as leaders of a flock. This morning it is a pleasure to welcome the young people of our parish as they lead us in worship. We are in good hands!

I was pleased to travel to Bridgewater this past Tuesday to share in the facilitation of the Fresh Start group of clergy who meet there on a bi-monthly basis. Fresh start is meant to ease the transition of priests into their new parishes during the first two years of their incumbency.

I ask your prayers this morning for the family of Minnie Dunn. Minnie passed away  on Monday, April 23rd. I was pleased to meet with Minnie’s family to complete arrangements for a memorial service that took place here at St. Andrew’s on Thursday night. Thanks to Rev. Judie and Marilyn for their participation in the service and to Edith Steffens and members of our choir, including some who were coaxed out of retirement to take part in the Celebration of Minnie’s life.

I was grateful for the opportunity to communicate with a number of parishioners this week either in person or by phone. The Easter gospel  tells us that we are never alone and it is always rewarding when we imitate Christ in community and solidarity with one another.

Great news, but no big surprise, we knew she would be fine. Marilyn was successful at her pre-ordination assessment clearing the way for her ordination to the diaconate, at All Saints Cathedral on June 11th. Congratulations Marilyn!!
Men from the parish and from the community gathered for breakfast on Saturday morning. As usual we ate well and enjoyed one another's company. I am very grateful to those whose efforts and leadership make this breakfast possible and give thanks for the fellowship it provides. Next breakfast is May 26th.

May the presence of the Risen Lord be reflected in us so that what we say, think and do is a blessing to God's holy name.
