Rectors Report
Merry Christmas!!! As you know there are twelve days of Christmas so our celebration continues.
I begin my report this week by extending a heartfelt thank you to the parish and congregation for their thoughtful gifts and well wishes extended to Marian and I during this holiday season. We are most appreciative.
The holiday season has a way of making special things happen. On Tuesday I paid a visit to a family in our community who felt called to make a difference in the lives of others who have needs at this time of year. There response was a sizable donation for our 'white gift' campaign which goes to Feed Nova Scotia. After coming back from that visit there was a man and his two grand sons standing in our parking lot. We started up a conversation and I learned that he was visiting from Barbados and that back home he sang in his church choir. He asked if he might join our choir on Christmas Eve. My response, 'there is always room at the inn,' and so I told him about choir practice on Wednesday evening. He came, he practices and on Christmas Eve he sang with our choir at the 4:00 o'clock and 6:30 services. We give thanks for Nigel's presence at our celebrations.
Christmas Eve is, well Christmas Eve. We celebrated three services, each different from the other, but each capturing the wonder and the mystery that is the birth of the Christ Child. From the fervour, the hustle and bustle of the family service with the Sunday School presentation, to the quiet of a darkened church lit only with candle light as the sweet tones of Silent Night fill the air this night remains and always will be most special in the lives of Christians throughout the world.
In the words of Tiny Tim from Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol.
“God bless us everyone.”
