Rector's Report

Sunday June, 21st

The calendar gives us much to be thankful for this week. We say goodbye to spring and hello to summer. Bring it on !! This Sunday we also give thanks for father's as we celebrate Father's Day. In recognizing these times let us give thanks to God, for creation and the variety of the seasons, and for the example of our Lord's love which we pray may be a foundation for how father's father their children.

A bit of an update regarding St. Luke's. Following our last parish council meeting we have made arrangements for a formal appraisal of the property and have also retained legal counsel to begin the process of migrating the property. The formal appraisal is a requirement of the diocese, and will provide vital information regarding the value of the property and potential uses. The migrating of the deeds is necessary before any property can be sold. Thanks to Doug Gillett for his leadership in this process.

The prayer group met on Wednesday morning. We will meet this coming Wednesday morning at 10:30 and than break for the summer. On Wednesday evening the clericus met at the home of the Rev. Laurie Ohmstead in Hubbards. We said farewell to two priest from our region. The Rev. Irving Letto of Hackett's Cove is retiring and Rev. Jane Reid of St. Nicholas has accepted an appointment in LaHave Blue Rocks.

I was called to the hospital on Thursday morning by Tammy Caya whose dad was dying. I was pleased to have prayers with her, her mom and sisters. Her dad, Raymond Dunlop, passed away that morning. On Friday I visited Tammy and her family at home. Please keep Tammy and Martin and their family in your prayers. Mr. Dunlop's funeral is Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Georges Church in the parish of French Village.

I was also pleased to be able to do a home communion this week. It is always a wonderful experience to be able to take the prayers and hopes of our community into the homes of those of our parishioners who are unable to make it to our regular worship services.

In our bulletin for the past couple of weeks Rev. Ron has laid out plans for the resumption of The Bible Study Fellowship Group in September. I look forward to offering a study as well on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Our focus will be on the book "The Heart of Christianity" written by Marcus Borg a contemporary biblical scholar. Our study/discussion format will enable us to look at our faith through the eyes of contemporary scholarship with the intent of finding the heart of Christianity in today's world. Copies of the book will be required so if you think you might be attending let me know and we may be able to order them in bulk.

Happy Father's Day !!!

Blessings,
Rev. Mike
