Rectors Weekly Report
I remember a few weeks ago preaching on the topic of pride and humility. My message was that too much of either is not a good thing. I believe my pride in this parish is most appropriate and certainly not over the top. I have had occasion this week to experience that pride once again.
Tuesday morning the regional clericus met at St. Francis by the Lakes in Lower Sackville. As Regional Dean I chair the meetings of clericus and it was my privilege on Tuesday morning to introduce our newest member, Marilyn Hamlin, who as a postulant for the Vocational Diaconate becomes a member of clericus. So our parish representation on Tuesday morning included myself, Rev. Judie and Marilyn.
On Tuesday evening I attended the dinner meeting of the Friends of the Bishop (Formerly the Bishops Men) as a guest of long time member Keith Fraser. I was pleasantly surprised when I discovered that our parish had not two but six people present for the dinner meeting, by far the largest number from any parish. The Friends of the Bishop have long supported the bishop by providing much needed funding for the bishops discretionary fund. I have placed information / application materials at the back of the church. For more information talk to members Keith Fraser, Barry Fraser or Gordon Hamlin.
Wednesday morning I met with Marilyn Hamlin to review her program of training, to look at relevant areas of ministry to fulfill training requirements and to plan for her continued ministry to the parish and to the wider community. Following that meeting the prayer group met in the fellowship room to hold up this community and the community beyond in prayer.
Thursday morning I was pleased to attend the Remembrance Day service in Lakeside. Again I was proud of the leadership role demonstrated by our congregation. For Rev. Judie who helped to organize the service, for our choir director, Edith Steffens, and our choir who provided leadership in music, and for those who were in attendance to remember the sacrifices made on our behalf by members of our armed forces. Thank you.
I met with the wardens on Friday morning to plan for next week's Parish Council meeting as well as the Annual General Meeting of the parish that will take place in January.
I was also pleased to meet with the Rev. David Dellapinna as we finalized plans for the first teaching session with our confirmation candidates to take place after the 10:30 service this morning. I am overjoyed at the response we have had for confirmation. Please keep the following candidates in your prayers: Tricina Morash, Emily Mongeon, Hannah Gillett, Tyler Makin, Hailey Corbin Makin, Brandon Reykdal, Kyle Reykdal, Mitchell MacFarlane, Matthew MacFarlane, Mitchell Travis, Blake Travis, David Scott, Kaila Brown, Nathan Gage.
I will be at a meeting of Regional Deans in Debert this Tuesday and Wednesday. While I am away pastoral matters should be referred to Rev. Judie. (446-0229) I will be back in the office on Thursday morning.
A reminder that our book study will resume this Thursday afternoon in the Fellowship/Choir room beginning at 2:30 p.m.
May our lives this week be a blessing to God and God's kingdom.
Rev. Mike
